Fall preview

Something's happening. There seems to be some shift in the nature of the way things work.

I'm not much of a comic book movie fan, but two of the movies I'm most looking forward to are "Iron Man" and "The Dark Knight." I'm so psyched for "Iron Man" that I plan to see it Friday at 10:30 in the morning.

I'm also not too into fantasy movies. I may appreciate their qualities but I don't enjoy most movies with swords or spells, particularly the "Rings" trilogy.

And yet, this is a fantastic preview for a movie that's edging its way up my list of movies to see. I think it had me at "Charles Darwin" in the list of the gang members.

Names and changes

I'm working on a new script, trying to finish it before the end of May.

It's part fable, part tall tale, part Dickensian yarn (at least in the plotting, that is). It's also completely unlike anything else I've ever written (at least in the plotting, that is).

My biggest concern is that I haven't figured out the main character's name yet.

The main character's name is going to be the title, I know that much. I just haven't figured out what to call him yet. But, honestly, I'd rather have no idea what he's called than have two pages of possible names. Because I'm laboring under the belief that I'll know it when I see it -- an old company logo stamped onto an antique typewriter, a name in the closing credits of some old movie, the right random flip through a phone book.

In a station

Random Soundcheck

A (re)inaugural moment of Zen for the ISB: A man with a lot on his mind is asked to help with a sound/light level check. I like the Wellesian shadow ....
